LAGUNA BEACH, CA, June 24, 2021 — Marquis Who’s Who, the world’s premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Steven C. Davidson, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Davidson received a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from Whittier College, then earned a Master of Education in counseling from the University of Memphis, followed by a PhD in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in 1989, concluding with licensure as a psychologist. His college teaching has included Introduction to Psychology, and Theories and Systems of Psychology at the University of La Verne, and Intellectual Assessment at Alliant University. He helped establish Mental Health Court in San Bernardino County, an attempt to separate mental health issues from criminal issues.

Dr. Davidson’s focus on helping people lead simpler, more successful, happier lives has permeated every stage of his career, in classrooms, government psychotherapy and training, private practice, and in writing innovative mental health books and articles aimed at practical change.

Perhaps his primary contribution to the field of mental health is his development of the theory of personal operations—the idea that people are goal-oriented systems, therefore problems in living point to challenges in the goal-seeking process. This idea was first presented in 2000 in Genetic, Social, and General Psychology Monographs, and subsequently in his clinical textbook, An Introduction to Human Operations Psychotherapy, published by Rowman and Littlefield.

A secondary contribution has been Dr. Davidson’s view that the history and archaeology of previous societies provide real-world data on effective and ineffective models of personality and lifestyle. He has lectured on human operations and on historical lessons of successful living in Los Angeles, Santa Fe, New Mexico, Hawaii, Hong Kong, and Athens, Greece to audiences of businesspeople, social science students, psychologists, and psychiatrists.

His final active clinical work was a private practice in Newport Beach, California. He was selected as the winner of the 2021 Best of Newport Beach Award in the Psychologists category. His most recent enterprises have been to complete a popular book on the principles of personal operations, and to begin writing a novel showcasing operational principles in successful career management. Dr. Davidson is a member of the California Psychological Association, and the American Psychological Association.
